How To Make Money at 60 Years Old
Welcome. I want to give you some ideas on how to make money at 60 years old. You have experience that others will pay to hear. You have a work history that is valuable anywhere you want to work. Employers need your experience.
If you have not reached this age of experience, read-on you will get some ideas too.
Fast Food – This might be going back in time
I visit lots of fast food restaurants. I know it’s not good for my health. I see older workers behind the counter all the time. Of course, I don’t know why all of them are working. But, I have asked some of them. They are having to work again because their retirement funds are not stretching, as planned. Or they are working to add a little more spending money to their pockets.
There could be several other reasons you have returned to work or need to, the economy could be one. The increase in the cost of living. Maybe, one of your children has moved in, or never left. Anyway, I digress.
There are many businesses needing your experience and dependability. One of the fast food establishments near where I live, has a hard time with workers not showing up for work. The workers don’t call to let the supervisor, or owner, know they won’t be in. All work places are in the need of employees who know how to treat customers and will show-up to work as scheduled.
Pros:
- You will get paid for every hour worked.
- The minimum wage is five times, or more, what it was when we started working. Within a couple years it will be $15 per hour.
- You are not responsible for running the operation, just doing your part to make things work.
Cons:
- You only earn minimum wage.
- You have to work a schedule set by someone else.
- The work maybe harder than you remember. Everything is harder than 10 years ago, oh my back and feet just thinking about it.
Car Advertising – have your car wrapped
Do you own a car 2008 or newer? There are companies wanting to advertise their products and services using private individual cars. Your car is wrapped with logo and phone number of a company. The wraps are removable, like a large sticker. The wrap will protect your car, if it is a full car wrap. There are partial wraps, usually the sides and rear window. The instillation could take 30 – 60 minutes for a partial wrap. A full wrap could take 6 – 10 hours.
Most companies are looking for someone driving a minimum of 30 miles per day. They want exposure. The amount you earn varies, but is usually $100 per month, the maximum could be $200 per month (rare). Some advertisers might also ask you to park in a certain location and time, for additional exposure. You can get extra pay to park in certain area and time, you could earn and additional $30 per hour.
Be warned, legitimate companies will not ask you for money to install the wrap. If asked for money up front, DON’T give them any. They are trying to scam you.
Find a better company.
Pros:
- You will get paid for the driving miles you already drive.
- Your car will look fabulous.
- You could earn money for parking.
Cons:
- You have to keep your car washed.
- Low earning potential.
Write – share your knowledge
You have knowledge from your previous career, others will pay for.
Maybe, you sold real estate, you can create a training course.
You could be creative and write a book based on an old family story that is where the Harry Potter stories came from.
Maybe you have a hobby (quilting, cooking, gardening, woodworking, restore old cars, etc) that others want to know how to do themselves.
There are companies who will publish your book. Or you could simply publish the book yourself. With a computer and printer you can publish a book using a plastic comb binding.
You could create an online training program. With your own website, you can sell either a book or a training course, using videos to demonstrate techniques. There are people who learn better by seeing the process.
With a GoPro camera, the options are limitless. You could do YouTube videos. Or enhance the information in your book or training, many people like to listen to information presented. The video can show how to do something that is hard to follow when reading the instructions.
The total online shoppers in the United States is about 209.6 million, 2016. With estimates of 230.5 million by 2021. An estimated 1.92 billion people are expected to purchase something online in 2019, this is worldwide. Over 5 billion Google searches are made every day.
Pros:
- You’re earning potential is unlimited, the world is your customer.
- You will have a lot of fun, if you are creative. Maybe, you can learn to be creative.
- You will be helping people learn from your experience.
Cons:
- Working for free until you create a brand name.
- Might have to buy some equipment.
- You will have to step out of your comfort zone. Actually, this could be a PRO.

Rent A Room – do you have a spare room
Do you have a spare bedroom that will allow you to make some extra money? There are people looking to have a nice place to live without the high cost of living. They could be looking for a roommate. Or they are looking for a vacation, holiday somewhere different from a resort.
People are looking for a nice place to stay for a weekend or week. The Airbnb way of vacationing. Do you live in a community which could draw tourists? If you live in a community that has recently added a professional sports team, but has not built enough hotels. Or, just has limited hotel rooms. There is an opportunity to earn additional income. And meet interesting people.
Most people spend $90 – $200 per night to stay in a hotel. It is becoming popular to stay in a community, travelers learn more about the place they are visiting from people like you.
Pros:
- You determine how much you want to earn.
- You have the extra space which can now create income.
- Make life long friends and customers.
- Enjoy other people.
Cons:
- Local laws don’t allow you to rent a room.
- Your family and friends think you are crazy.
- There are people in your home, you have to act nice.
Driver – drive people around town
There are a lot of people who would rather not use a taxi. The ride-sharing consumer is expanding, in March 2018, 73 million people used either Uber or Lyft.
It is easy for you to download the Uber or Lyft app to your phone. When you decide who you want to drive for, a lot of drivers sign-up for both. Uber currently, holds a little more of the market. My father likes Uber a little better. But I have heard some drivers prefer Lyft.
You determine where and when you want to work. There are cities and time of day which is considered “prime.” The driver makes more money.
If this is something that appeals to you, do some research. You can be a passenger for both, try it as a passenger first. Asks the driver questions about how they like it. How much they make. The expense of driving, and anything else you have concerns about.
Pros:
- You determine how much you work and when.
- You can make money quickly.
- Return customers.
- Enjoy other people.
Cons:
- The age of the car you plan to use, on the road no longer than 10 years.
- Your car needs to be clean, inside and out.
- Your car insurance might not allow it.
Conclusion
These are just a few ideas on how to make money at 60 years old. Which one fits what you would like to do?
I recommend the idea of writing. And that is actually what I am doing right now. I am sharing with you, stretching my brain muscle a little. Sharing what I have seen others doing. And introducing you to a whole new world.
You might be thinking I could never do this. Well, if you think about it you have over 20 years to develop a new career. Could that be a writing career? As I said above, you write a book an article at a time. Then sell it on the internet. The market is global, the world has gotten smaller since we were born. The internet makes it easier to connect with people.
Like me, you are thinking, I don’t know anything about setting up a web page. Well, I know a company that provides a step-by-step training program. Think about the possibilities.
